Growing pains can occur in children of all ages. They can cause pain in the muscles of the legs and can occur more frequently after a highly active day. Children often describe pain in the afternoon and can sometimes wake at night complaining of pain in their legs. The symptoms can be difficult to monitor as your child may have pain every night for a week and then not have any pain for a month.
Cause
There is no proven cause of growing pains however it is believed to be strongly linked with foot posture (ie. flat feet). It is thought that the muscles of the leg are overworking to stabilise the foot and get tired and overworked causing pain.
